In April 2010 an explosion killed 29 miners. In May 2010 Massey energy Co., CEO Don Blankenship testified to the U.S. Senate on mine safety. On Thursday November 13, 2014 Don Blankenship was indicted on charges that he orchestrated the routine violation of key mine safety rules at the Upper Big Branch Mine. It is alleged those violations caused the wrongful death of those 29 miners. Read the full story here. Kansas has a history of unsafe work places that have also resulted in tragic and unnecessary deaths. The Wichita Eagle reported that in 3 decades 680 workers were killed on the job.
